PRAYER ROUTINE

PRAYER ROUTINE

In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

–Luke 6:12

Begin with a short Scripture reading.

This is not to be a bible study. Maybe read through a book of the bible (I’d suggest, along with the gospels, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Corinthians, and 1-3 John).  Just read a couple verses.  You aren’t trying to learn here.  The Scripture acts as a call to prayer, a nudge to wake up to God’s presence.

After an opening Scripture reading, begin to pray as follows:

Pray for Love

“God help me to love as you have commanded me to love.”

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.  It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

–1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Pray for Peace

“God, surround my mind and body with your peace.”

Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

–1 Peter 5:7

Pray for Others

“Lord Jesus, I pray that _____________ will receive Your Spirit into their lives.”

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. –1 Timothy 2:1-5

Pray for Forgiveness

“My God, I know I have done wrong.  I confess the following sins:    ___________________________________

Please forgive me and help me forgive others and myself.”

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.     –1 John 1:9

Pray for Guidance

“God, show me what you want me to do today.”

Let us pray to the Lord our God….that the Lord your God may show us the way we should go, and the thing we should do. –Jeremiah 42:2-3

Pray for Protection

“Lord God, keep your hands of protection around me and those I love today.”

Be strong and courageous.  Do not fear or be in dread of others, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you.  He will not leave you or forsake you.                               —Deuteronomy 31:6

Pray for Faith

“God, help me to trust that You will meet all of my needs.”

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours                         —Mark 11:24

After you have prayed through this checklist, feel free to express to the Lord anything else that is on your mind and heart.  Words of praise, thanksgiving, adoration and worship are all recommended, along with dumping your frustrations and fears at His feet.

Finally, I’d suggest you close your time with the Lord by praying the following prayer:

+

Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do not forget You. You know how easily I abandon You.

Stay with me Lord, because I am weak, and I need Your strength, so that I may not fall so often.

Stay with me Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without fervor.

Stay with me Lord, for You are my light, and without you, I am in darkness.

Stay with me Lord, to show me Your will.

Stay with me Lord, so that I hear Your voice and follow You.

Stay with me Lord, for I desire to love you very much, and always be in Your Company.

Stay with me Lord, if You wish me to be faithful to You.

Stay with me Lord, for as poor as my soul is, I want it to be a place of consolation for You, a nest of Love.

Stay with me, Jesus, in life with all its dangers and distractions, you know how much I need You.

Stay with me Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace, Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other reward but to love You more and more.

With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and continue to love You perfectly during all eternity. Amen.
